University of California Riverside Multidisciplinary Research Building 1

designing adaptable systems to support multidisciplinary research

The Multidisciplinary Research Building 1 (MRB1) at UC Riverside supports collaborative, multidisciplinary research across life/chemical sciences, medicine, engineering and computation. The new LEED Platinum facility provides wet and dry research labs, including BSL2 lab space, core lab support facilities, a vivarium and space for faculty and academic support. The building is designed to be flexible and adaptable while encouraging collaboration and cross-pollination of ideas between researchers.

Building systems design extended chilled water and steam from the existing campus central plant, as well as 12kV power lines and telecom pathways to support the facility’s barrier vivarium and other spaces. The LEED Platinum design incorporates both energy efficiency and water reduction strategies.
