As the flagship facility for Humber College’s rapidly growing Applied Research and Innovation program, the Barrett Centre for Technology and Innovation (BCTI) is designed to connect students, community and industry partners in an environment supporting entrepreneurship and environmental stewardship. The BCTI fosters“work-integrated learning” by bridging the transition from education to real-world experience. The Centre provides students with modern technologies for practice, simulated worksites, and augmented reality learning of trades.
The signature architectural design for the 5-story, 93,000 SF building celebrates the unique identity and growing reputation of applied research at Humber. The campus is aligned with surrounding existing and new transit infrastructure and seamlessly connects to the larger pedestrian circulation system.
The LEED Platinum, net zero energy design integrates numerous sustainable features, including Passive House strategies to reduce energy consumption.
The EXP team completed civil and stormwater management design to support construction of the new building. The detailed civil engineering designs included site grading, site servicing and sediment and erosion control. Design focused on sustainable practices and human-centered solutions for the modern world.
Site servicing designs realigned and connected to existing site sanitary and storm sewer systems located within the operational campus. Stormwater management designs incorporated best practices and municipal practices.
