In early September, Elbow Cay in The Bahamas, suffered staggering damages when Hurricane Dorian, a record Category 5 storm surged through the Atlantic Ocean. The magnitude of Dorian’s damage has been estimated at over USD$3 billion, destroying crucial infrastructure, homes and power grids.
Post-Dorian recovery efforts require immediate attention to restore power, provide shelter and distribute critical resources to residents. To deliver near-term power restoration, EXP joined forces with Hope Town United, a community-driven nonprofitorganization committed to reconstructing an environmentally sustainable infrastructure for Elbow Cay. Led by Matt Winslow and Brian Malone, with support from stakeholders including Constellation Brands, the Sands Family Foundation and EXP, teams began to assess cost-effective opportunities to stabilize power across the island of Hope Town, as well as sustainable and resilient infrastructure and power to withstand future storms.
Vice President of Business Development, Kyle Henry, project manager, Chris Beckman and electrical engineer, Sheldon Frank who are leading these efforts for EXP, have visited Hope Town to understand how EXP can deliver robust and future-focused resilient services, shared, “Our united efforts to provide Elbow Cay with resilient and sustainable power and infrastructure is about the communities we serve and our partners who have gone to great lengths to support coordinated efforts. We are not just planning, designing or building for a single project, we are here to collect data and preserve the integrity of Elbow Cay through proactive and resilient measures. This way, resilient practices become standards for more islands throughout The Bahamas.
With the support of the Bahamian Central government, EXP will utilize over 20 years of experience working in The Bahamas to preserve, protect and return Elbow Cay to its colorful and rich cultural identity.
