The Upland Pipeline connects crude oil from key oil producing areas in North Dakota to oil transportation connection points in either Manitoba or Saskatchewan in Canada.
The Upland Pipeline provides shippers in the Williston Basin in North Dakota with an option to transport crude oil north. With over 230 miles (370 km) of 20-inch pipeline in the US, the Upland Pipeline is expected to transport 300,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil. In addition to the pipeline, the project includes installation of seven above-ground receipt facilities. Crossing the US-Canada border north of Flaxton, ND, the project requires a Presidential Permit where the US Department of State (DOS) took the lead role through the NEPA process.
