Revamp of the northern section of Dorchester Square

October 11, 2019

Our experts continue to bring high-profile public-space projects to life, the latest being the redesign of Montreal’s Dorchester Square.

The project aimed to consolidate and facilitate the connection between Mount Royal and the St. Lawrence River, while also making the square more accessible and friendly to pedestrians and enhancing the urban environment.  Other project requirements included ensuring the sustainability of the site, preserving the monuments that are emblematic of the history of Montreal, integrating active transportation notions identified in the City’s 2008 transportation plan, protecting this archeological asset and commemorating the Saint-Antoine cemetery upon which the square was built between 1876 and 1880.

Completed in the spring of 2019, the $9M redesign allowed for the rehabilitation of sidewalks and pathways, as well as for the integration of a ten meters (33 feet) tall, Victorian-inspired fountain, an urban lighting system, two new footbridges and street furniture. EXP provided civil, mechanical, electrical and structural engineering services for the project.
