EXP and Apeiron partner to advance Indigenous participation in resource regulation, critical minerals and clean fuels

November 13, 2025

EXP is proud to partner with Apeiron Environment, an Indigenous-owned company, on initiatives that strengthen Indigenous participation in Canada’s evolving energy and natural resource sectors. EXP and Apeiron Environment are collaborating on three national programs promoting Indigenous leadership in energy regulation, critical minerals development and clean fuels innovation.

Advancing clean fuels and energy sovereignty

EXP and Apeiron Environment have joined forces on a nationally funded project that supports Indigenous participation in clean fuels development, including biofuels and cleaner transportation initiatives. Through this project, Indigenous Nations and Indigenous-owned businesses gain access to technical knowledge and information on capacity-building opportunities and funding pathways. These resources can then be used to promote energy sovereignty, reduce emissions and support long-term community resilience.

Supporting Indigenous leadership in critical minerals

As part of the work with Apeiron, EXP is also developing a Critical Minerals Indigenous Involvement (CMII) information series, with participation from Indigenous Nations in Alberta. This initiative helps Indigenous Nations explore and engage with the growing critical minerals sector through accessible, culturally relevant information and capacity-building resources.

Building capacity through the IAMC–TIRI Project

Under the guidance of the Enbridge Line 3 Indigenous Advisory and Monitoring Committee (IAMC), the Training for Indigenous Regulatory Involvement (TIRI) project was completed this year. TIRI was designed to build Indigenous capacity and increase participation in federal regulatory processes related to energy development. Through this work, the Apeiron–EXP partnership advanced the IAMC’s goal of fostering collaborative monitoring, transparent decision-making and two-way learning between Indigenous Nations, regulators and industry.

A model partnership

The EXP and Apeiron partnership serves as a model.

“By combining technical excellence with respect for Indigenous rights, traditional knowledge and community priorities, EXP and Apeiron are demonstrating how collaboration can lead to stronger environmental outcomes, fairer participation in the economy and lasting benefits for Indigenous Peoples, industry and regulators,” EXP’s Vice President, Environment and Regulatory, Energy Rachael Powell, M.E.Des., EP, PMP said.
