Designed for flexibility and collaboration, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Theory and Computing Sciences Building (TCS) at Argonne National Laboratory is a world-class interdisciplinary research center. The TCS is dedicated to large-scale computation and the advancement of high-performance computing software, advanced hardware architectures and applications expertise.
The heart of the TCS is a large computational facility that houses one of the fastest civilian supercomputing systems. In addition, the 241,698 SF facility includes reconfigurable instrument laboratories, an advanced digital conference center, a library and office spaces that create an environment conducive to interdisciplinary interactions between researchers spanning theory, computing science and experimental validation.
Designed to be at the forefront of technology, the TCS assists Argonne in pursuing its mission to broaden the intellectual scope of research activities to advance science and science education. Specifically designed to be an open and flexible workplace to encourage the flow of ideas between scientists and researchers from across the globe, the building features an exposed structure and an openness that fosters interdisciplinary collaboration.
This new facility is located at the campus public entrance on an 11-acre site, providing a stunning new first impression to the public as they arrive at the Argonne campus.
