Hotel Del Coronado Renovation and Restoration
Coronado, CA, USA
Restoring historic integrity through modern design solutions
The recent renovation of the Hotel del Coronado’s Victorian guestroom wing marked the culmination of a multi-year, $550 million restoration effort. The project focused on preserving the historic integrity of the 1888 structure while modernizing its infrastructure to meet contemporary hospitality standards.
The project involved a comprehensive renovation of the property, beginning with a complete modernization of the HVAC infrastructure across 404 guestrooms and common areas. This included the installation of energy-efficient, low-profile systems designed to minimalize visual impact and preserve historic aesthetics. Special attention was given to duct and pipe routing to avoid any disruption of original architectural features.
Preserving history through the use of modern design strategies
EXP was responsible for the full electrical system upgrade, including rewiring and panel replacements while maintaining full compliance with current codes. Bathrooms were redesigned with water-saving fixtures to align with the project’s sustainability goals. A state-of-the-art fire suppression system was installed throughout the Victorian building.
EXP’s lighting design team thoughtfully blended traditional Victorian aesthetics with modern functionality by pairing Victorian-inspired fixtures with LED technology.
