EXP supports development of new industry guidelines for INGAA members emphasizing safer pipeline construction.

The Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA) Foundation has published guidelines to support operators, engineers and constructors as they navigate the growing complexity of pipeline construction and coordinator densification projects.

Developed by EXP and multidisciplinary experts on behalf of INGAA, the Guidelines for Parallel Construction of Pipelines offers research-backed and risk-based lifecycle guidance. It covers the planning, design, construction, commissioning and post-construction integrity management of new pipelines constructed parallel to or in close proximity to existing underground transmission pipelines and related energy infrastructure.

“The industry is seeking clear, consistent guidance to help teams work safely, efficiently with more predictability,” EXP’s Director of Integrity Management Elaine Pacheco said. “Pipeline construction and corridor densification have continued well beyond the timeframe anticipated when these guidelines were originally published in 2011. We are proud to partner with INGAA and get the guidance into the hands of INGAA members and support safer energy infrastructure.”

The updated guidelines prioritize information that is aligned with the current state of engineering and regulatory expectations of parallel pipeline projects. The information also addresses the greater shift toward environmental stewardship, economic efficiency and established transmission routes.
