EXP’s Rockaway Line Resiliency and Rehabilitation team attended the reopening celebration of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) Rockaway A Line. Following a successful upgrade and restoration initiative, the A Line now serves nearly 12,500 riders daily, connecting them between the Rockaway peninsula and the rest of New York City.
As the project’s lead designer, EXP, was responsible for design-build services for this critical transit lifeline for the community. The team led the design and construction of viaduct repairs at the Hammels Wye Campus and along the east and west branches of the Rockaway Line, including station and signal tower and system upgrades, related traction-power and electrical work and utility components.
“This was a proud moment for all members of the EXP team. We are honored to be the lead designer on this transformative project, which is more than reconstruction and rehabilitation. It is about creating transit dependability for Rockaway residents for years to come,” said EXP’s Vice President of Infrastructure Walter Clark.
“Projects like this are what the new MTA is all about: delivering transformational projects better, faster, and cheaper than ever before. After 17 weeks of 20-hour shifts through the heart of a New York City winter, we’re proud to deliver generations of great public transit to the Rockaways — on time and on budget,” said MTA Construction & Development President Jamie Torres-Springer.
The MTA Rockaway Line Rehabilitation & Resiliency Project has an expected completion date of August 2026. EXP is part of the Schiavone design-build team. Learn more about EXP’s role in the MTA Rockaway Line Rehabilitation & Resiliency Project.
