On August 6, 2025, Ontario and Metrolinx announced the award of a contract to North End Connectors to design, build and finance the Yonge North Subway Extension’s twin tunnels. The project is being delivered as a design-build-finance contract, using the public-private partnership procurement model.
The Yonge North Subway Extension will bring TTC Line 1 service approximately eight kilometers farther north into York Region. The tunnelling contract involves the construction of twin 6.3-kilometer tunnels from Finch Station on the Toronto Transit Commission’s Line 1 to south of Langstaff Road in Markham, where the extension will transition to surface-level.
North End Connectors is comprised of Aecon, FCC Construcción, Ghella, EXP and TYPSA. EXP will serve as the design lead on the project.
“EXP will bring our global experience to another priority transit project in the Greater Toronto Area. By leveraging transit design and innovative methods, EXP will support the North End Connectors team in delivering this transformative project, which will improve commute times and spur economic opportunities throughout the region. We are proud to be a part of the team who are undertaking this vital project,” said EXP’s Executive Vice President, Major/Mega Projects Reece Bailey.
