EXP joined the Chicago Transit Authority in celebrating a major milestone in the CTA’s historic $2.1 billion Red and Purple Modernization (RPM) Phase One Project – the grand opening of four new Red Line stations.
The four new fully reconstructed Red Line stations at Lawrence, Argyle, Berwyn and Bryn Mawr are fully accessible with elevators and escalators. As part of RPM Phase One, which began in 2019, the renovation and opening of these stations has been largely anticipated by Chicago commuters.
As part of the Walsh-Fluor Design-Build team, EXP was responsible for the design of all stations, with each one reflecting the unique community it serves. RPM Phase One also includes the full reconstruction of the Red and Purple Line Express flyover track structure and the installation of a new signal system.
“Today marks a milestone that has been long-awaited by many Chicagoans. Transit serves as a catalyst for community growth and interaction. As part of the Walsh Fluor-Design-Build team, we were excited to work with the CTA and the communities to design stations that reflect the character of the communities. EXP is incredibly proud to be a part of this landmark project and create modern and fully accessible stations,” said EXP’s Senior Vice President Jefrey D. Jakalski, AIA.
EXP’s Kristen Armstrong, Alzira Maldonado Protsishin and Melina De Oliveira join the Walsh-Flour Design-Build team, CTA and city officials to celebrate the grand opening.
