Pier Sixty-Six, often referred to as a social harbor, brings luxury to waterfront living. Previously owned by Phillips Petroleum Company, the now one-billion-dollar master-planned community by Tavistock Development, has once again redefined Fort Lauderdale’s iconic skyline. Located on 32 waterfront acres, Pier Sixty-Six features 325 luxury residences across four structures, multi-level pool experiences, a wellness spa, curated dining options, indoor and outdoor event space, as well as a superyacht and marina.
Integrated services to deliver luxurious details
EXP provided integrated services from lighting design, technology design, mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering and fire protection to create a luxurious and welcoming guest experience. Design challenges were met with ingenuity, adaptability and a goal to ensure that the interior design matched the iconic skyline. Integrating advanced technology and lighting into a historic structure required creativity, custom detailing and close collaboration with architects, engineers and contractors.
Awakening an architectural icon through lighting design
EXP led the lighting design of Pier Sixty-Six. The lighting design fused mid-century modern heritage with refined coastal luxury. Inspired by Googie-era forms, light traces clean lines and sweeping curves, celebrating futurist optimism. Bespoke fixtures and dynamic façade lighting — including color-shifting nodes and a sparkling crown — guide guests through immersive indoor-outdoor spaces. Every detail reinforced a refined journey, where daylight, architecture and light choreography converge to blend nostalgia with modern technology and restore timeless elegance.
A site-wide networked lighting control system unified the experience across five distinct buildings constructed simultaneously — a feat of coordination and complexity. Guest-facing luminaires, both indoor and outdoor, are connected through this infrastructure, allowing for precise control of intensity, timing, and color. The system also orchestrates the color-changing façade lighting, where nodes and linear accents animate the architecture with a dynamic show that culminates in a sparkling crown at the top of the tower.
