Ruby Falls Expansion

Enhancing the visitor experience for a unique waterfall attraction

Located on historic Lookout Mountain near Chattanooga, TN, Ruby Falls provides visitors unique access to the nation’s tallest and deepest underground waterfall open to the public.

Recent expansion to Ruby Falls enhanced the visitor experience by providing a modern entrance to the cavern trail and a bird’s eye view over the valley with the accessible Blue Heron Overlook. The design also expanded ticketing, retail and back of house spaces, and upgraded the communication system within the caverns.

Using 40 different LEED strategies, ranging from solar panels to low water use fixtures to daylighting, the expansion achieved LEED Certification.

Technology design to improve systems

EXP’s technology team provided a structured cabling system, surveillance system and AV and background music (BGM) systems. The structured cabling and surveillance systems were designed to provide data and Wi-Fi coverage within the visitors and public spaces, and provide security coverage for visitor and staff safety.

The AV systems were designed to update the communication systems within the cavern to better communicate with staff and visitors. The BGM system was designed to provide ambient sound in retail and public spaces.
