A sustainable new place for exploration
The 146,000 SF Mote Science Education Aquarium brings an exciting new place for visitors to explore marine life from around the world. With over 600,000 visitors anticipated annually, the facility also serves as a showcase for Mote’s leading research across more than 20 marine and coastal scientific programs.
Multi-purpose spaces for exploration
With 110,000 SF of public aquarium exhibits and learning spaces and over 1 million gallons of habitat, the venue brings numerous indoor and outdoor exhibits with species ranging from penguins and otters to freshwater and saltwater animals.
In addition to three stories of exhibit space, the facility also includes laboratories, veterinary surgery and clinic, educational classrooms, administrative offices, digital research library archive, gift shop, multipurpose ballroom and full-service kitchen.
Outdoor spaces such as event lawns, exterior terrace and outdoor classroom spaces complete the new development.
Multidisciplinary solutions for design and commissioning
Multidisciplinary engineering, technology and lighting services brought the project to life. In addition to engineering for the building’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems, EXP provided specialized services for life support systems coordination and integrated technology, AV and lighting design. EXP’s specialist team also commissioned the building’s systems.
Design of exterior façade lighting highlights the building’s architecture at night. High-end lighting design within multipurpose and administration areas completes these spaces.
