Thundering Heights Public School services growing population in Niagara Falls

June 3, 2026

A three-story K-8 school complete with a gymnasium, multi-room daycare center and designated play areas is now fully constructed and occupied in Ontario. Located at the intersection of Kalar and McLeod, the facility accommodates a maximum of 608 elementary students in an area that continues to expand in the midst of a residential development boom.

EXP contributed mechanical, electrical, structural, civil and landscape design services to the project. Our team also helped coordinate site plan applications and approvals with municipal authorities, including the District School Board of Niagara.

Our multidisciplinary approach maintained a holistic, high-level view of the project across its timeline, from planning and schematic design through construction.

EXP’s landscape architecture team developed detailed designs of outdoor learning spaces, a licensed childcare yard, stormwater management elements and designated pedestrian areas to encourage safe circulation between parking areas, bus loading zones and building exits.

In alignment with EXP’s commitment to sustainability, energy recovery ventilators (ERVs) were installed in the building. These units reuse energy from exhaust, which reduces the cost and carbon emissions associated with heating and cooling needs. The air-to-air heat exchange method also improves air quality, making it an ideal strategy for sustainable energy management.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to display EXP’s wide variety of services and expertise in this project,” Electrical Manager – Hamilton Buildings Division and PM Chris Bredin said. “The result is a solid, safe, sustainable school that will benefit the local community for years to come.”
