Airport Transit System (ATS) Bridge over I-190 and CTA Blue Line

setting new benchmarks for a complex people mover

The ATS is a driverless, fully-automated landside people mover operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. The ATS Bridge is a critical component in the complex system supporting the people mover on a 2.7-mile-long dual-lane guideway.

Widening and modification of the ATS Bridge was identified as an advance project required as part of reconstruction of the I-190 Corridor. While the unique systems needed to keep the ATS in service are complex, widening and modification of the structure was completed while keeping the ATS running and people moving to and from O’Hare.
