In an effort to enhance passenger satisfaction and streamline operational efficiency, a modernization project is underway at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The project’s goal is to standardize the design of existing and new restrooms within the airport, creating a unified and elevated experience for travelers. These enhancements will ensure inclusivity and accessibility within the Central Passenger Terminal Complex and will also improve efficiency for staff who service the restrooms. As the lead on this joint project, EXP is providing architectural and structural services for this project.
“This project is a small part of a larger strategy to elevate the travel experience by transforming often-overlooked spaces into functional and sustainable spaces that benefit all travelers,” said Senior Project Manager Michelle Bear. As passenger demands evolve, the modernized and expanded restrooms will be essential to maintaining an optimal level of service and accessibility. These improvements will include renovations to 39 banks of restrooms throughout all terminals and concourses, with a modern and more spacious design and updated features.
In addition to the renovations, the new restroom banks will include nursing suites, adult changing facilities, family restrooms and all-gender restrooms. To ensure the restrooms are accessible, ADA Guidelines will be implemented to allow for safe and easy access for all ages and abilities.
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the busiest airport in the world, and it is important to keep travelers moving efficiently and cause minimal disruption to their experience. To ensure a seamless travel experience, only one or two restrooms per concourse will be closed at a time, and temporary restrooms may be used to make sure restrooms are accessible at all times. As the travel experience changes, the facilities and services provided to travelers must evolve as well. The completion of this project will bring a new, modern and convenient experience for all airport visitors.
