EXP awarded contract by Lithium Nevada Corp. to deliver services for new sulfuric acid plant

January 9, 2020

Houston, TX – EXP, a leader in Oil, Gas + Chemicals, is pleased to announce an awarded contract by Lithium Nevada Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Lithium Americas Corp., to provide DFS-level engineering and project estimating services for the development of a new greenfield 1,950 mtpd sulfuric acid plant at the largest known lithium resource in the United States – the Thacker Pass project. The project is to be based on MECS® MAX3™, a breakthrough sulfuric acid technology by DuPont Clean Technologies. The use of the MECS® MAX3™ technology maximizes energy recovery in the form of high-pressure steam for power production while minimizing stack emissions, resulting in improved energy efficiency and emission levels.

EXP was selected based on its proven experience and agility to provide a bankable EPC cost estimate within a 4-month time frame. The EXP team is committed to the success of the project, having over 25 years of experience working with MECS® technologies from DuPont and a strong understanding of the client’s mission.

“We are delighted to establish this agreement with Lithium Nevada Corp. at a time when the industry is looking for continued development in battery technology, supported by reliable operations and environmental integrity to have the lowest impact on the environment,” said senior vice president, Walter V. Mutler. “The implementation of this project incorporates the latest technology to deliver a state-of-the-art facility while simultaneously ensuring operability, maintainability and capital cost objectives are met.”

EXP’s senior vice president of Oil, Gas + Chemicals, Marc van den Boom, shared, “This recent award is a testament to our team’s strength in providing EPC services in the OG+C business.”
