Leaders in the making: EXP + LMSA mentoring program celebrates eight years of partnership

May 14, 2026

For eight years, EXP has partnered with Lindblom Math and Science Academy (LMSA), located in Chicago’s West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, to mentor junior and senior high school students interested in architecture and engineering careers.

The four teams, Be’Yong Swag, Ctrl+Alt+Delete Inc., MidKnight Dream Inc. and The Best Team were challenged to design a pop-up retail space at Lake Street and Halsted Street in Chicago. Students balanced creativity with real-world architectural constraints, such as site conditions, accessibility requirements and design feasibility to create a realistic design.

“Each year, our goal is to inspire students to take the leap into engineering and architecture, and without fail, they inspire us equally and strengthen our admiration for our professions,” Vice President + Senior Project Manager Horeya Czaplewski said. “These students are motivated, curious and ready to lead. They give us a lot to be excited about for the future of our industry.”
