EXP was recognized by the Atlantic Interior Design Awards with the award of excellence in the corporate office category for the 555 Mapleton office project in Moncton, Canada.
The Atlantic Interior Design Awards showcase exceptional design within Atlantic Canada. This year, there were 8 categories and community awards decided by a panel of judges, who used a scoring system based on design concept, social and environmental responsibility, client testimonial and photos of the constructed spaces. Winning projects and community awards were presented at an awards gala in Halifax, NS that was attended by members from the Atlantic Provinces interior design community and building product representatives.
The 555 Mapleton office is recognized for its locally influenced design elements and custom functionality. The space was transformed from a former call center into a new 10,000 square ft office and testing lab facility for EXP. The overall design concept of the space captures the essence of the region’s natural and constructed landscapes, intertwining them to mirror the unique office culture and the notion that the built and natural environment should be shared by all. The space features design elements that are an ode to the history of the City of Moncton. These include Corten steel finishes throughout the space to reference Moncton’s history as a railway and land transportation hub for the Maritimes and wave style ceiling treatments that reflect the rare natural phenomenon of the Bay of Fundy tides.
The primary objective of the project was to craft an environment that serves as a space for collaboration among design groups, while also offering functional spaces tailored to the workflow and technical functions for both the office and testing lab. Because of the deep knowledge of what the space would be used for, the teams were able to create a custom office that allows employees to utilize the space to best suit their needs. Inclusionary design principles were incorporated throughout the office to provide an accessible and inviting space for all.
“The design of 555 Mapleton is a great testament to EXP’s commitment to working collaboratively on projects. This was a multi-discipline design project completed in-house by EXP’s own design team of regional experts. With an emphasis on purposeful, functional design, we have proudly created a bright and beautiful space that is inclusive, and considerate towards the various needs of the professionals within our office,” said Interior Designer + Project Manager Aaron Taylor.
