The newly constructed wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in the Township of Adjala-Tosorontio has received an Ontario Engineering Project Award (OEPA), “Award of Distinction” from the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – Ontario. The treatment plant also received an “Environmental Award ($10M to $50M)” from the Ontario Public Works Association (OPWA). EXP acted as the prime consultant for design, construction, environmental assessment and project management services.
Both the OEPA and OPWA recognize engineering excellence and the successful use of innovative solutions to solve complex environmental and infrastructure challenges. In particular, the Colgan WWTP was honored with these awards due to its emphasis on sustainability and clear project communication.
The WWTP is situated within the new 640-household development it was built to service. The plant’s architectural features and strict odour controls allow it to blend into the community, while its advanced treatment design minimizes potential impacts to the sensitive watercourse where its outfall is located. These and other features enable this critical wastewater treatment infrastructure to bolster environmental protection through its innovative, transparent and integrated design.
“We are proud of our contributions to the Environmental Assessment process, community consultations and wastewater treatment plant design and constructure,” Vice President, Strategic Projects + Growth Chris Sandink said. “The facility will support the Colgan community for decades to come, and we are grateful to have delivered it working alongside Tribute Communities and the Township of Adjala-Tosorontio.”
