AIA Chicago Foundation awards Alzira Maldonado Protsishin with the 2021 Dubin Family Young Architect Award

EXP is proud to announce that Design Architect, Alzira Maldonado Protsishin, AIA, NCARB has been named the recipient of the Dubin Family Young Architect Award. AIA Chicago’s Young Architect Award recognizes “excellence in ability and exceptional contributions by Chicago area architects” and has awarded many visionaries in the field.

Alzira joined EXP in 2013 as an intern architect, focusing on a range of project types for public sector agencies. With a primary interest in rail and transit, justice and higher education clients, Alzira has contributed to the success of iconic projects throughout Chicago and the world including the CTA’s Washington/Wabash Elevated Station, CTA 95th Street/Dan Ryan Intermodal Terminal Station, CTA’s Red-Purple Lines Modernization Project and the United States Federal Courthouse for the Northern Mariana Islands located on Saipan Island.

“Alzira is more than just a designer. She is a resourceful and creative problem-solver who contributes throughout all phases of design, including detailing and construction, as a talented architect and passionate advocate for design excellence in service to our clients and communities. She is deserving of this prestigious honor, not only for the exceptional work she has done to date but for the great things she will do going forward,” said EXP’s Senior Vice President / Design Director Thomas Hoepf, FAIA.

Alzira is a graduate of the University of Los Andes, Bogotá, Colombia with a Bachelor of Architecture and received her Master of Architecture degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology. She is a registered architect in Illinois and involved with advancing the next generation of architects through Arquitina, a professional leadership and licensure initiative for Latina/x women in architecture, Arquitectos, WING Mentorship Program and AIA Chicago’s Bridge program.
