CTA Belmont and Jefferson Park Blue Line Stations

an aesthetic refresh while enhancing the safety of commuters

Station and track upgrades to the CTA Blue Line mean faster service and a cleaner, more accessible experience for commuters.

EXP was the lead architecture/engineering consultant for completed renovations to the Chicago Transit Authority’s Belmont Blue Line and Jefferson Park Stations as part of the CTA’s “Your New Blue” rebuilding initiative. The Blue Line serves more than 86,000 people a day on average, making it the second busiest of the CTA’s lines. Together, the Belmont and Jefferson Park stations serve 1.8 million entries annually.

The modernized Belmont Blue Line station is a contribution to the greater Avondale neighborhood. This station had not seen major changes since it opened more than 50 years previously. The significant renovation includes a new steel canopy, new LED lighting, repaved surfaces and new signage. EXP was Architect of Record in the structural engineering portion of the canopy entrance and shelter beneath the canopy.

Improvements to the Jefferson Park Station such as wider loading islands, audio assistance and new bus boarding areas are examples of taking steps towards 100% ADA compliance across the CTA.
