Pope Field Air Traffic Control Tower

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

Pope Air Force Base, North Carolina

This project featured design-build of a new 110-foot high, 9,040 SF air traffic control tower with associated parking, site design, and roadway/runway traffic control. Replacing an existing tower, the new tower features antiterrorism/force protection design in accordance with the DOD Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), fire detection/suppression compliance, and a new radar beacon system installation. The construction logistics plan and phased demolition of the existing tower were established to accommodate the activities of the adjacent fire station.

For this effort, exp Federal prepared a multidiscipline design-build RFP for advertisement, conducted technical reviews of RFP submittals, and provided design compliance review for the new Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT). We conducted programming meetings with current staff and AFCEE to integrate specialized requirements, provided architectural renderings to assure compatibility with base standards, coordinated LEED® requirements with base personnel, and prepared MCACES cost estimates for scope validation.
